Ian de la Roche

Ian first joined the forest sector in 1992, when he was appointed President of Forintek Canada Corp. He subsequently assumed the responsibilities for FERIC and Paprican. In September 2006, he took on the challenge of merging the three national institutes into FPInnovations. As its first President, he also had oversight responsibility for the Canadian Wood Fibre Centre. FPInnovations has a staff complement of approximately 650 and the capacity to address technical issues along the full length of the value chain

Dr. de la Roche’s career spans almost 40 years of experience in plant genetics research, strategic planning, and creation of partnerships between government and industry. Prior to joining forestry, he served as Assistant Deputy Minister at both Agriculture Canada and Western Economic Diversification.
Ian stepped down as founding President and C.E.O. of FPInnovations on January 31, 2009. He remains actively engaged in the Forest sector, as Principal of DELAROCHE Consultancy, Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia and Business Associate of Timwood AB. Over the last three years, DELAROCHE Consultancy has undertaken projects for NRCan, Alberta Government, Canadian Wood Council, University of New Brunswick and six international Forest Product companies.

In 2009, he was interim President and CEO of the Canadian Wood Council. Ian also serves on several advisory Boards including GenomeBC, CRIBE, Expert Panel on the State of Industrial R&D in Canada and the New Brunswick Research and Innovation Council. He was the recipient of the 2012 Dr Don Rix Award for Lifetime Achievement in Life Sciences.
